TOM JONAS has recommitted to Port Adelaide, securing his future at Alberton until the end of the 2022 season.

Jonas, 27, was already contracted for 2019 but elected to commit himself to the club for an extra three years.

A member of the Power’s leadership group, Jonas has become one of the most reliable and consistent performers in the side, having worked his way off the rookie list in 2011.

Jonas’s signing is the latest for the Power in the off-season, following teammates Justin Westhoff, Jarrod Lienert, Joe Atley, Dan Houston and Dougal Howard.

“You do pinch yourself sometimes for where you’ve been and where we are at now as a club,” Jonas said.

“I’m extremely grateful to the club for showing so much faith in me throughout my footy journey.

“I’m proud to say that I’ve been part of it and I’m looking forward to continuing to work hard and gearing up for a new campaign.”

Jonas has played 121 AFL games since his debut in 2011 and was runner up to Westhoff for the 2018 John Cahill Medal, awarded to the club’s best and fairest player.

The winner of the past two Fos Williams Medals as best team man, Jonas is renowned for his selflessness and leadership in the backline.

He said he was excited about being part of the club’s future.

“It’s hugely exciting what we’ve got at our finger tips,” Jonas said.

“We’ve got 20 players that are new to the group in the last two years, we’ve got some high draft picks and at the same time we’ve got a good crop of current players that are playing some good footy and are right in the peak of their footy powers, so we’re really excited with what we can achieve.

“We’ve also got some new coaches with a lot of bright ideas so the only way is up for us, and I’m very excited about the future.”

General Manager – Football, Chris Davies said the club was thrilled to retain Jonas’ services.

“Tom is a real success story for the rookie list and an example of how persistence and hard work can pay off,” he said.

“He is a fearless player and a fantastic person, and because of that, a popular member of the playing group.

“Tom is a strong leader and an important part of our backline, and we couldn’t be more pleased to have him for an extra three seasons.”
