Montgomery discusses the feeling after Saturday evening’s clash with the Lions:

“Initially they were flat on the missed opportunities.

“We did enough right to be reasonably buoyant but in that second quarter kicking 2.7 and then late making a few composure errors with the ball was enough for the guys to be quite disappointed.

“But once that was able to subside, I was pretty upbeat about what we were able to do and where we are trying to get to.

“We are trying to settle as much as we can, clearly there is some game-style stuff we are trying to play around with and some positional play that we’re trying to bed down.”

Montgomery discusses the form of Matthew Broadbent:

“He’s really close. He was unlucky to suffer a little bit of hamstring stuff out here mid-week when he was right in the frame.

“He’s had to go back and put two good ones together so as soon as he is physically ready, he will get a look in.

“He has been spoken about really highly in match committee weekly, so I’m looking forward to him returning.

“Condition wise he would be very, very close - certainly injury wise no problem at all.

“You talk about him joining a defensive group, he’s got a high intellect, great defensive acumen, a huge leader for us and we are looking forward to him re-joining.”

Montgomery discusses the form of Jack Trengove:

“He’s part of lots of conversations which is a great thing for him.

“If we’d have looked at him pre-season and asked would he be knocking the door down this early in the season? Then I’m not sure the answer but he can’t do any more.

“One thing we have been really clear about is how flexible we want our players to be.

“It was part of their values when we came together and set a path for this year.

“I think what we do really well is give players opportunities to fulfil those roles when they come up better than we ever have.

“I think for Jack to come up and re-surface on a half back flank or predominantly forward wouldn’t give him or us the best chance of that being a success.”

Montgomery discusses Connor Rozee’s game:

“I don’t think anyone - you guys included - were surprised. It’s been coming. We know the obvious talents.

“I think one thing he has done that he hasn’t had a lot of credit for is how super clean he has been when it’s either been wet or dewy.

“He’s probably looked at another level in that part of the game.

“Our players found it pretty tough up at the Gabba for ball-handling. He didn’t.

“He had a four-quarter performance this week that was off the charts.

“Quality of touch, timing - we’ve been pretty happy with his eight or nine-possession games to date, just for his involvements.

“He’s a really smart player who takes a lot of work to defend which can obviously create opportunity for others.”

Montgomery discusses the performance of the backline:

“I think we got off to a slowish start and the scoreboard would suggest that but from that point onwards, I thought they were outstanding.

“Really well led by TJ and I think it was a really even contribution as well.

“Our team defence, for the most part of that game, was able to impact the way Brisbane wanted to play I think that assisted our backline accordingly.”
