SANFL preview: Port v Eagles

PORT ADELAIDE will be looking to bounce back from last week’s disappointing result when it faces Woodville-West Torrens in Saturday afternoon’s Round 5 SANFL clash.

The Magpies were outplayed by Norwood, thanks largely to a blistering third quarter from the home side, in the Easter Thursday clash.

Matthew Lokan’s men will again be away from home on Saturday when they make the short trip to Woodville’s Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.

Port now sit 2-2 after the first four rounds and will be looking to get back on the positive side of the ledger with a strong performance against the Eagles.

After winning in Round 1 against North Adelaide, the Eagles have dropped their last three matches to Sturt, Adelaide and West Adelaide to sit seventh on the ladder.

Former Port Adelaide midfielder Jimmy Toumpas will face his old side in good form, after coming off an impressive 28-possession game last week in his first outing in Eagles colours since 2012.

Woodville-West Torrens forwards James Rowe and Jack Hayes are another pair for Magpies defenders to look out for, kicking 17 goals between in this early part of the season.

Despite sitting out most of Thursday’s clash with a hamstring injury, Tobin Cox leads the early goal kicking count for Port with five goals, while Kane Farrell and Peter Ladhams have each chipped in with four apiece this year.

Now averaging 39 disposals across his opening four matches, Jack Trengove has been the standout performer for the Magpies, while Matthew Broadbent and Jarrod Lienert have also been very impressive.

A total of 17 points separated the sides from their two meetings last year, with draw followed by a 17-point Eagles win in Round 13.

Port and Woodville-West Torrens’ clash will get underway at 2.10pm on Saturday 27 April at Maughan Thiem Kia Oval.
