PORT ADELAIDE ruck coach Dean Brogan says he has been very pleased by the impact new recruit Scott Lycett has had since joining the club in last year’s trade period.

Brogan says he watched him play in last year’s finals series but admitted to not knowing much about the former Eagle prior to that.

“I’ve been really surprised at how much of a good runner he is and what a player he is,” Brogan said on SEN SA Breakfast.

“He stays consistent most of the game. A lot ruckman all start well then fade because of their engines but he just keeps going and going and going.

“He’s an old-school bash and crash ruckman as well.

“He and Paddy have a really good thing going at the moment.

“Overall, Scotty has been a really good pick up and the list management guys have done a really well getting him over here.”

The 2004 premiership ruckman says it has been great coming back to the club he played 174 AFL games and kicked 50 goals.

“It’s been good. It was an opportunity to do some part-time ruck stuff down there,” he said.

“Chris Davies and Ken were really good about my work outside of football as well.

“To go back to the club - it’s in your blood Port Adelaide - and help out, it’s been really good.”

Brogan says the young crop of players who have been drafted to the club in recent years have been a pleasure to teach.

“It’s a new generation through the door,” the 40-year-old said.

“It’s good to give back and help out the young guys coming through the club and teach them about the club.

“The guys they have brought in - a lot of new faces from a players point of view - are really good kids, humble and appreciative of playing for Port Adelaide.”
