SANFL preview: Port vs West

Tom Rockliff SANFL highlights, record 57 disposals! The pig goes big! Tom Rockliff SANFL highlights, record 57 disposals!

PORT ADELAIDE will host West Adelaide this Sunday afternoon at Alberton Oval in an attempt to entrench itself in the SANFL top five.

The Magpies moved from seventh to fourth on a tight ladder with a hard-fought win over North Adelaide in trying conditions at Prospect Oval last weekend.

Port sit one win clear of the sixth and seventh-placed Sturt and Woodville-West Torrens, with a win this week over the ninth-placed Bloods bolstering its chances of a finals berth.

The Magpies are in the middle of a good run of form, claiming wins in their last three encounters over fellow finals aspirants, the Double Blues and Norwood, as well as the highly competitive Roosters.

With a healthy list at both AFL and SANFL level, Magpies coach Matthew Lokan should have a large pool of talent to select from.

Tom Rockliff joined the Magpies last week and set an equal SANFL record 57 disposals in a very impressive performance alongside Paddy Ryder, Justin Westhoff, Jarrod Lienert and Sam Powell-Pepper.

Port opened its 2019 season with a Round 1 match against West Adelaide at City Mazda Stadium and ran out 31-point winners.

Under the Friday night lights, Sam Gray played a ripping game in the prison bars, booting four goals from 34 disposals, while Jack Trengove dusted the early season cobwebs off with 44 disposals, 11 tackles and eight clearances.

While the Bloods have just one win to its name in season 2019, they are not to be underestimated with quality players in the likes of former Crow Jono Beech, Kaine Stevens, Tom Keough and Logan Hill in good form.

Port Adelaide will take to Alberton Oval at 2.10pm on Sunday to do battle with West Adelaide.
