PORT ADELAIDE forward Jake Patmore says he’s really excited to continue on the “journey together” after re-signing with the club alongside four other talented youngsters.

Patmore has extended his contract for a further year, which will tie him to the club until the end of the 2020 season, and he says it is an exciting time.

“It’s amazing, especially with the young group coming through, it’s really exciting,” Patmore told portadelaidefc.com.au

“(We’re) on that journey together and I can’t wait for what’s to come.

“It’s really good, they (Duursma, Butters & Rozee) came in with a really positive attitude.

“They got along with everyone really quickly, hence them cementing their spot and playing really good footy at the top level. It’s really exciting.”

Patmore says a good relationship with fellow second-year player Joel Garner stemmed from playing underage football against each other over a number of years.

“With Joel (Garner), I’ve been pretty close with him, coming up the ranks as well, in under 18s.

“It’s good, the chemistry is really good.”

Patmore suffered a torn ACL in an SANFL trial game between Port Adelaide and South Adelaide earlier this year, and the 20-year-old says despite the tough nature of the recovery, he is determined to get back and prove himself to the club.

“It’s obviously tough doing the ACL and (being) out for the year,” he said.

“As a young bloke especially, when you’re trying to prove something to the club.

“I guess I was starting to play some good footy and then obviously the knee happened, but the rehab is coming along really well. My knee is going well.

“I’ve started running again, so I’m feeling positive about it and just happy to sign on and be ready for next year.”

The Claremont product is thankful for the faith the club has shown in him, and he says he is excited to get back on the field repay Port.

“It shows that they’ve got faith in me and I guess liked what they saw before it happened,” Patmore said.

“It’s definitely very exciting and I can’t wait to repay that faith next year.”

During his rehabilitation phase, Patmore has been doing some work with the club’s community team to help further his work outside of football.

“It’s been good,” he said.

“Bobby (Alipate Carlile) is an awesome guy and I’ve been working pretty closely with Cam Sutcliffe as well, before he got drafted.

They have been really welcoming and it’s just good to get back out into the community and give back a little bit.”
