PORT ADELAIDE midfielder Tom Rockliff says there is still a really positive feeling around the football club, despite the disappointing results over the last month.

Port suffered its third consecutive loss on the weekend - to Greater Western Sydney by one point - but still remains just one game and percentage out of the top eight.

Rockliff says with four games to secure a finals spot, everyone is up for the fight.

“I know this is a really good club, everyone enjoys coming to work,” Rockliff said at a press conference at Alberton Oval on Wednesday afternoon.

“I know footy the staff - whether it’s a player or coach - enjoy turning up wanting to improve and want to get better.

“The week hasn’t altered for us at all. We know what we’ve got to do to win games of footy, and we aren’t doing it consistently at the moment.

“We felt like we should’ve walked away with a win on the weekend but it didn’t pan out that way, so there were positives to take out of it, but there are room for improvement areas to work on.”

The ball magnet admits the players and coaches were frustrated with the loss to the Giants, but says they must quickly move their attention to the in-form Essendon.

“We reviewed it pretty well,” Rockliff said.

“It was probably one that got away from us. We felt like we had our chances, particularly late in the game. We just didn’t take them.

“We reviewed that and moved on pretty quickly. Essendon is our focus now and we know we have to win this weekend, and we haven’t looked too far past that.”

The Power could be boosted by the return on co-captain Ollie Wines to face the Bombers this weekend, as he ramps up his training load after suffering a broken thumb a fortnight ago.

Rockliff says the inclusion of the co-captain would be a big boost for the group.

“Ollie is an outstanding player,” he said.

“He brings plenty of run and grunt work inside for us as well. Any time we have Ollie out there, we are a better team and we perform better.

“If he gets up this week, it will be great for us.”

The 29-year-old says the form of Charlie Dixon and Steven Motlop - who kicked seven goals between them in the SANFL last weekend - was a real positive for the club.

“I think everyone in the Magpies kept pressure on the AFL team,” Rockliff said.

“Those two (Dixon and Motlop) particularly because they went back and performed really well. They did everything asked of them by the coaches.

“They’ve set themselves up to push for selection again this weekend… and there’s no doubt those boys will put pressure on the coaches to select them again.”

The final team will be announced on Thursday night, ahead of Saturday’s huge Round 20 clash with the Bombers at Marvel Stadium.
