THE AFL Brownlow Predictor has had its say on who it expects to win the Brownlow Medal at the annual count on Monday night.

The predictor has Geelong’s Patrick Dangerfield winning with 28 votes ahead of Carlton’s Patrick Cripps on 26 and Fremantle’s Nat Fyfe on 25.

The Brownlow predictor has Travis Boak expected to lead the way for Port Adelaide in a tie for 14th with Essendon’s Zach Merrett on 17 votes.

The Power is tipped to poll 73 votes across 13 players, up from an expected 65 from the same number of players in 2018.

Last year the predictor had Ollie Wines expected to receive nine votes as the Power’s best and he finished with 14 votes to lead his teammates. A total of 14 Power players picked up a total of 62 votes in 2018.

Here are some of the 2019 predictions.

Best chance: Travis Boak

According to the AFL’s Brownlow predictor, Boak is expected to poll 17 votes in 2019 including the maximum three votes on three occasions – Round 6 against North Melbourne when he won the Peter Badcoe VC Medal, Round 9 against Gold Coast when he had 36 touches, and in Round 11 when he won the Shanghai Medal as best on ground against St Kilda.

Should he reach 17 votes, it’ll be the second highest season vote tally of his career behind only the 21 he polled when he finished in a tie for fifth in 2014.

Boak averaged 30.3 disposals in 2019, up from his career average of 23.7 and in all he had 13 30-plus disposal games for the season. He was much quieter in the last four games of the season where he averaged 21.8 disposals, and that could cost him.

Fast starter: Tom Rockliff

After a disappointing first year at Port Adelaide in 2018, Rockliff burst out of the blocks in 2019 with high possession games against Melbourne (44), Carlton (37), Richmond (37) and West Coast (32) in the first five rounds. He also had 41 against Adelaide in Round 8.

The AFL’s Brownlow predictor has the 29-year-old polling 10 votes by that point but a hamstring injury kept him out for four AFL games from Round 11 to 15 and he is not expected to pick up another vote in the back end of the season despite returning in Round 16 with 36 touches 11 marks and five tackles in the Round 16 Showdown win.

One-vote wonder: Riley Bonner

The running half-back had his most consistent season to date, playing 19 AFL games to take his career tally to 42. He also booted five goals including three in the Round 11 game against St Kilda in Shanghai. He’s yet to record a Brownlow vote in his short career but the AFL’s Brownlow predictor has him picking up his first one for that effort in China.
