AHEAD of Port Adelaide’s Best and Fairest count on Friday night, portadelaidefc.com.au takes a look at who is in contention for the John Cahill and A.R. McLean medals.

The A.R. McLean Medal is awarded to Port Adelaide's best and fairest player in the SANFL. After the completion of every game, Port Adelaide's SANFL coaches and SANFL Manager Shane Grimm cast their votes, rating each player's performance between 0-5, with a maximum of 20 and minimum of 20 votes per player per game awarded.

The same process is undertaken in the AFL, with the Power's best and fairest player receiving the John Cahill Medal.

A. R. McLean contender - Willem Drew

After starting the year in the Power side, Willem Drew went back to the SANFL and played strong, consistent football for the Magpies.

Drew averaged 27.2 disposals, eight tackles and seven clearances from his 13 SANFL games in 2019.

The inside midfielder has a season-best 38 disposals in the round 16 victory over Woodville-West Torrens, while his 29-touch, two-goal effort against Sturt in round nine was arguably his best game for the year.

Drew only played 13 SANFL games in 2019, including the Magpies finals series, but had a huge influence on them, which should still see him poll well.

Drew’s standout performances:

Round 7 vs Adelaide - 32 disposals, 12 clearances, five tackles

Round 8 vs Glenelg - 30 disposals, 10 clearances, eight tackles

Round 9 vs Sturt - 29 disposals, nine clearances, eight tackles, two goals

Round 13 vs Adelaide - 24 disposals, 11 tackles, six clearances

Round 14 vs Glenelg - 30 disposals, seven tackles

Round 15 vs South Adelaide - 26 disposals, seven marks, six clearances

Round 16 vs Woodville-West Torrens - 38 disposals, six tackles, five clearances, one goal

Round 17 vs Sturt - 23 disposals, 11 tackles, eight clearances

Qualifying Final vs Adelaide - 32 disposals, eight tackles, seven clearances

Second Semi Final vs Glenelg - 22 disposals, 11 tackles, six clearances, one goal
