DOM Cassisi and Cameron Hitchcock will be assessed prior to Port Adelaide’s NAB Cup clash against Melbourne at Renmark.

The Power travels to the Riverland to play the Demons in round two of the pre-season competition on Sunday March 3.

Cassisi and Hitchcock missed the club’s NAB Cup opener last weekend due to respective calf and plantar fascia injuries.

Alan Richardson told the pair would be assessed prior to the squad selection for that game.

“Both Dom and Cam have progressed really well,” said Richardson.

“They have completed straight line and agility running with the view to join in training with the group this week."

“They’ll have a full week of ball work next week and we’ll ramp up the physical side of their program.

“The way their body responds to the increased training load over the next two weeks will determine whether they’re selected to play in Renmark."

Angus Monfries was the only player to sustain injury in Port Adelaide’s first NAB Cup games on Sunday.

The 26-year-old pulled his hamstring in the final moments of the Power’s 16-point loss to Adelaide but is expected to return for the end of the pre-season competition.

“Angus will potentially return for round four of the NAB Cup and there may be a chance for him to play in the SANFL the following week if we think it is necessary in preparation for round one,” said Richardson.

“It’s important to note Angus hasn’t missed a beat all pre-season so we can be afford to be conservative with his rehabilitation.

“That is to say we don’t need to put miles into his legs – he’s got an excellent fitness base already.”
