PORT ADELAIDE Next Generation Academy talent Lauren Young has been named as part of the inaugural standalone Statewide Super SA U19 Girls Squad for 2021.

The SANFL has named a 30-player squad to play in the NAB AFLW Under 19 Championship, with the side to wear the red state guernsey for the first time having previously combined with the Northern Territory.

The standalone state side with be coached by Tim Weatherald and have matches against Western Australia in Adelaide, and Queensland and the Allies in Melbourne in the next three weeks.

It has been a fantastic month for Young who was named the SANFLW’s Round 1 Powerade Breakthrough Player after her debut for West Adelaide.

The 15-year-old Henley High School student, who comes from the Goodwood Saints, has been part of the Port Adelaide NGA set-up for four years and continues to impress all who have seen her play.

In her most recent performance in Round 4 of the SANFLW, Young booted all three of West’s goals in the Bloods’ narrow loss to Glenelg along with having a game-high 17 disposals.

Young now leads the SANFLW competition for disposals and kicks and is second in the competition for marks, having played primarily in the backline.
