PORT ADELAIDE drew first blood on Showdown day after defeating Adelaide by 14 points in the SANFL on Saturday afternoon.

The Magpies got off to the perfect start through Ben Edwards, who continued his scoring form with a quick kick off the ground inside 30 seconds.

Riley Bonner and Joel Garner then followed suit to blow the margin out to 17 points and have the Magpies looking good early.

The Crows eventually got their first but the Magpies were relentless.

Jake Weidemann marked over the top and ran into an open goal before Peter Ladhams added his first of the game.

Edwards then dribbled one home on the quarter-time siren to give Port a 27-point lead at the first break.

The second quarter was a tussle until Ladhams ended the drought as he grabbed it out of the ruck and snapped it home for his second.

The Crows earned back-to-back goals, but Port again responded.

Cam Sutcliffe dribbled a low kick home from 20 metres out before Garner secured his second in identical fashion to his first – from 50 metres out on the run – on the siren.

Adelaide came hard in the third quarter, booting five goals to one – a third to Ladhams – to cut the three-quarter-time margin to just 10 points.

The Magpies missed opportunities early in the last until Weidemann slotted his second to give them some breathing space.

Dylan Williams cut off a kick across goal and set up Bonner, who nailed his second and gave the Magpies a 21-point lead halfway through the last.

The Crows responded with two of their own to make it a nervous finish, but Sutcliffe put the icing on the cake with a goal following a 25-metre penalty.

Jarrod Lienert had 28 touches, while Bonner finished with 26 in addition to his two majors.
