TRENT MCKENZIE is excited to reunite with former coach Ken Hinkley after signing a one-year contract with the Power yesterday.

The delisted free agent was picked up as a 17-year-old access selection in the inaugural Gold Coast team, where Hinkley was an assistant coach.

McKenzie said the relationship he formed with Hinkley in his time at the Suns and the opportunity to reignite his career were important factors in his decision to relocate to Alberton.

“I spoke to him pretty early and he was keen to get me across,” McKenzie told Fiveaa’s Rowey and Bicks on Thursday afternoon.

“It will be great to get to [Port Adelaide] and work with him again.

“There have been a few good pick-ups in the trade period….it’s a big club and I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans.”

The 25-year-old defender played 106 games and kicked 22 goals with the Suns.

The raking left-footer is looking forward to the challenge of a demanding pre-season and a potential move up the field in 2018.

“If I get a good pre-season under my belt [and] a bit of running in to me – hopefully I can get up the ground a bit and deliver some nice kicks to the big fellas up forward,” McKenzie said.

“I’m just really looking forward to getting involved and getting the respect of my teammates and coaches.”

McKenzie will join his new teammates when the Power commence their pre-season campaign on November 27.
