SOME of the state’s best up-and-coming female talent will be on display at Alberton Oval on Thursday evening.

Port Adelaide will take on the Adelaide Crows in an under 15 girls Next Generation Academy (NGA) game, with the match featuring exciting young local players.

The two AFL clubs each have four SANFLW clubs within their zone through which players are identified and invited to train with their respective academy.

The match begins at 5pm on Thursday with anyone welcome to attend. Image: Matt Sampson.

Port Adelaide’s zone is comprised of players from Norwood, South Adelaide, West Adelaide and Woodville-West Torrens.

The Power’s NGA coach Naomi Maidment said the academy is a fantastic opportunity to see the best young players in action.

“It’s really exciting to now have a complete pathway in place for girls in football,” she said.

“Since the introduction of AFLW, these young footballers can finally aim toward a professional future in elite footy. These exhibition matches between the two academies are good fun for our young players and are a great opportunity to see their talent on display.”

Maidment, who is also Port Adelaide’s AFLW list manager, is ably supported by her NGA assistant coaches Andrew Kemp and Luke Hartley.

“I’m very grateful for Andrew and Luke’s support with this program over the past few years – I couldn’t do it without them,” she said.

The match begins at 5pm on Thursday and will be made up of four 25-minute quarters.

Anyone is welcome to attend and The Precinct at Alberton is also available for dinner bookings.
