PORT ADELAIDE defeated Adelaide in an under 15 girls Next Generation Academy (NGA) match at Alberton Oval on Thursday.

A healthy crowd watched on from across the stands and the deck of The Precinct, as Port Adelaide pulled off an emphatic 33-point win.

AFLW players including Gemma Houghton, Lily Johnson, Ash Woodland, Hannah Ewings, Amelie Borg and Maggie MacLachlan went along to cheer on the girls, with the latter even supporting in a defensive coaching role.

Port Adelaide had eight individual goal-scorers, with Taylah Pearson (Norwood) and Taya Maxwell (South Adelaide) kicking two each.

NGA coach Naomi Maidment was thrilled with her side’s performance.

“I was really impressed with the team effort from the girls last night, particularly as they have only spent a few sessions together as a group” she said.

“We saw some great Port Adelaide traits on show last night…some ferocious tackling, particularly in the first half.

“I’m looking forward to watching the ongoing development of this group in their home clubs and beyond.”
