Originally hailing from Ballarat, Lachie Charleson was selected by Port Adelaide with its second pick in the 2023 AFL National Draft (52 overall). Charleson is known as one of the best applicators of defensive pressure in the 2023 draft pool, with his speed and intensity, including a penchant for big goal celebrations a feature of his game.

The 18-year-old Victorian enjoyed an impressive season for the Rebels in his draft year, finishing with 24 goals, including a bag of eight against the Bendigo Pioneers before following it up with a four-goal showing a fortnight later against the Murray Bushrangers. He will be looking to translate his damaging forward craft to his new home at Alberton, with a hope to make his AFL debut in the near future.
