Western Australian product Abbey Dowrick joined Port Adelaide’s inaugural squad as a versatile young player, having played for both Subiaco in the WAFL and Woodville-West Torrens in the SANFL. She immediately proved why she should be playing at the senior level, putting together an outstanding debut season where she finished second in the Season Seven Rising Star, behind only teammate Hannah Ewings.
She continued her rise in 2023, leading her side in disposals, tackles, clearances, contested possessions and metres gained – displaying her sheer appetite for the contest and consistency in putting in the hard yards. The 21-year-old averaged 6.3 clearances per game, finishing the season in the league’s top-six for both average and total clearances, and ranked third in the competition for average metres gained with 472, finishing only behind experienced midfielders Jasmine Garner and Ebony Marinoff. She capped off a phenomenal year by taking out Port Adelaide's Best and Fairest medal.
With a solid two seasons under her belt, Dowrick has shown she has only just begun her ascent.
