PORT ADELAIDE has completed its list by selecting Jasmin Stewart, Katelyn Pope and Georgie Jaques at the AFLW Supplementary Draft.

The three new players bring Port Adelaide’s list to 32, with the club allowed an additional two list spots for the 2023 season.

Stewart and Pope both have AFLW experience behind them, with Stewart spending four seasons at Fremantle and Pope playing one season at West Coast.

Stewart was originally drafted as Fremantle’s number one pick in 2018, and the now-24-year-old went on to play 22 games for the club.

The midfielder decided to take a step away from elite sport in mid-2022 and returned to WAFLW club, Claremont, where she was awarded the best on ground medal in her side’s winning grand final with 29 disposals, eight tackles and three inside 50s.

The proud Jaru woman is now keen for a return to football and was selected as the Power’s first pick at number two overall.

Pope, a small and zippy midfielder, was signed by West Coast as an injury replacement player in 2021.

The native South Australian made her league debut in Round 2 and went on to play six games throughout the season.

Pope was part of North Adelaide’s Premiership campaign in 2022 and has had a hot start to her 2023 SANFLW campaign, averaging 20 disposals from six games.

The 27-year-old was invited as a training partner with Port Adelaide in Season 7 and impressed recruiters with her hard-working nature and left-foot kick.

Jaques, who originally hails from Canberra, was born into the Port Adelaide family as the daughter of 1998 SANFL Premiership player Daniel Jaques.

As a young Indigenous woman, Jaques is committed to connecting with her culture, and joins fellow Indigenous athletes Stewart, Gemma Houghton and the Cockatoo-Motlap twins at Port Adelaide.

Playing for Norwood in the SANFLW this season, Jaques relocated from Canberra to challenge herself in one of the country’s best state league competitions.

The 19-year-old is a mature, developing tall who can play in the ruck or as a defender.

List manager Naomi Maidment was pleased to welcome the draftees to the club.

“We are very excited to have drafted three very promising players through the Supplementary Draft,” she said.

“Jasmin and Katelyn both have proven experience at AFLW level and we are happy to give them both another opportunity. Jasmin has exciting on-field traits and will be a real asset to our playing group.

“Katelyn was a training partner with us last season and impressed us straight away, so she has certainly earned a spot on our list, while Georgie is a developing tall who we expect to thrive in our high-performance environment.

“Our list is now complete for 2023, and we feel it is versatile and strong, with a perfect blend of youth and experience.”
