She’s the talented young woman who became a big part of the Port Adelaide family when we were blessed to have John McCarthy join us for the 2012 AFL season … now she’s back for a one-night-only Adelaide Fringe performance and musical portrayal of her experiences of life, love and loss.

Danielle Smarrelli – or Nussy as she’s known on stage – is performing her show “Lost For Words” this Friday (15 February) from 8pm at 48 Lounge within The Big Slapple precinct at the Adelaide Convention Centre on North Tce.

It’s an emotional return to Adelaide for Danielle, five months after John’s death.

The pair set up home in Adelaide and quickly came to love the Port Adelaide Football Club community and the city in which it is located.

“That’s the whole reason I’m doing this show in Adelaide,” Danielle said.

“I couldn’t think of a better way to say thank you to everyone there.

“From the moment we arrived, everyone took us both into the community and made us a part of that community.”

Danielle describes “Lost For Words” as an expression of her life experiences through song.

“The songs I play kind of tell a story both individually but also together as a performance,” she said.

“It’s my way of portraying my life as it’s been so far.”

Nussy is backed by an 11-piece band which she considers her orchestra, in keeping with the lyric “I wanted this to be a symphony, but it’s a window into me” from her own song Move Me.

“Lost For Words” features a mix of original and cover songs from a range of artists including John Mayer, Coldplay, Florence + the Machine and Bon Iver.

She even cover’s Keith Urban’s Somebody Like You, an unlikely favourite of John whose musical tastes help to influence on the show.

Nussy’s distinctive indie/pop style has earned her national acclaim after being showcased by Triple J’s “Unearthed” program.

Tickets to “Lost For Words” are available for $33 from adelaidefringe.com.au or by clicking here.
