PORT ADELAIDE's Abbey Dowrick has signed a two-year contract extension, keeping the young midfielder at Alberton until at least the end of 2026.

The Subiaco product had a breakout season in 2023, which saw her crowned the club’s best and fairest AFLW player, selected in the NAB AFLW All-Australian squad and named in the AFL Players’ Association 22Under22 squad of 44.

The 2022 Rising Star runner-up took her game to another level this year, averaging 19.6 disposals and 12.2 contested possessions from 10 games.

Dowrick also averaged 6.3 clearances per game, finishing the season in the league’s top-six for both average and total clearances.

The 21-year-old ranked third in the competition for average metres gained with 472, finishing only behind seasoned campaigners Jasmine Garner (North Melbourne) and Ebony Marinoff (Adelaide).

As one of the club’s inaugural AFLW players, Dowrick’s commitment shows confidence in the potential of the playing group.

“I’m stoked to be playing at Port Adelaide for at least another three years,” Dowrick said.

“I’ve really enjoyed my football this season and I’ve felt so supported by the club and my teammates.

“I know that success will come for this group and I am really excited to be a part of that.”

List manager Naomi Maidment was pleased to see Dowrick elect to stay at Alberton long-term.

“Abbey has incredible natural football talent and is someone we know will continue to get better,” Maidment said.

“Her commitment to her own development and her on-field performance has been exceptional this season. As a club, we’re invested in Abbey and in supporting her growth as a player, and as a person.”
