The Port Adelaide Football Club has broken its all-time membership record and is closing in on its 40,000 target for 2013.

The club passed the milestone on Friday, when it eclipsed the 38,305 member mark set in 1998, the club’s second year in the AFL.

Port Adelaide chairman David Koch announced the achievement on Saturday night, ahead of the Power’s Round 5 clash with the West Coast Eagles at AAMI Stadium.

“It is a brilliant result reflecting the way the Port Adelaide Community has thrown its support behind the club this year,” Mr Koch said.

“I thank each and every one of our members because they are all making our great club stronger.”

Port Adelaide’s 2013 membership stands at 38,650, a little over 2000 more the final result from last year.

It is just 1350 short of the 40,000 target the club has set for 2013. If Port Adelaide hits the 40,000 mark, an adult member present at the Round 14 game against Collingwood at AAMI Stadium will win a Renault Megane hatchback.

“We’ll get there with everyone’s support … if you’re not a member, get on board,” Mr Koch said.
