MATT THOMAS and Paul Stewart have finished off the SANFL minor round with strong performances at Norwood and Woodville-West Torrens respectively.

Matt Thomas was named the Port Adelaide football development team's Player of the Week for a 23-disposal performance at the Redlegs.

Football development manager Daniel Healy told portadelaidefc.com.au the tough inside midfielder was dominant at stoppages all day for his victorious Norwood side.

"Matt Thomas had a very good first half and second-quarter in particular," explained Healy.

"He was very, very dominant at stoppages and was pivotal to Norwood's success."

Lewis Stevenson had a reasonable showing for the Redlegs; managing 18 touches in addition to six rebounds.

Healy noted most of those rebounds came as Norwood began to get on top of North Adelaide during the second half.

"Stevo didn't have much impact in the first half but got more involved in the second as the Redlegs got on top," said Healy.

"He kicked the ball pretty well all day and had six rebounds."

Darren Pfeiffer launched a 70-metre spiral after the three-quarter-time siren, but generally struggled with a shoulder injury for most of the day.

Nathan Blee and Daniel Stewart struggled to impact the game as part of the losing North Adelaide side.

"Bleesy was wing mainly and across half-back, and didn't really have a significant influence," said Healy.

"Stewart played on Kieron McGuinness who is one of the better defenders in the SANFL, and found it tough going most of the day."

"He took five marks and led up most of the day so there was certainly some good effort there though on a tough day to be a North player."

After several quiet weeks for the Magpies, Brendon Ah Chee finished off his SANFL season with an impressive three-goal performance against Glenelg.

Playing predominantly on the wing and up forward, 'Arch' kicked the opening goal of the game and finished the second half strongly for the Port Adelaide SANFL side.

"He didn't have a lot of impact most of the day after kicking the opening goal, but then came up really good late and kicked two really important goals," said Healy.

"It was a really pleasing way to finish and he gave another opportunity away to John Butcher as well.

"He was very pivotal in their win."

John Butcher battled against Glenelg's key defenders during the game and took a number of strong marks up forward.

The 22-year-old was inaccurate in front of goals, though - kicking just one from six shots.

"John was kept under control by his opponent for most of the day," said Healy.

"He flew for a couple of ripping marks and scored a goal, but missed several others from set shots."

His younger brother Danny Butcher played in the reserves and finished his season with another positive showing.

"Danny played in the Magpies' twos for their last round of 2013 and he was pretty solid. It was good to see him finish the year off reasonably well," said Healy.

Development coach Stuart Cochrane was pleased with the offensive work of rookie-listed defender Justin Hoskin, who worked forward from half-back to take several shots for the Magpies reserves.

"Hoskin could've been better defensively, but he did work hard to push forward and take a few long shots on goal," Cochrane told portadelaidefc.com.au.

"Unfortunately some didn't quite hit the target and he ended up with 1.1"

Cochrane continues to be impressed by first-year defender Tom Clurey, who was damaging down back for Glenelg.

"Tommy did some great stuff yesterday, took some intercept marks and was really brave with a couple of his efforts," said Cochrane.

"We really would've liked his season to go another month because he's been making good in-roads as a key position backman."

Cochrane also observed three players for the victorious Eagles at Richmond Oval.

Paul Stewart was the pick of the lot with an impressive first game back from a wrist injury suffered in Round 19 against the Crows.

"Stewy had 18 touches in the first half and was really impressive," said Cochrane.

"He was honestly playing like a guy that wanted to get noticed, which is great to see.

"Hopefully that performance will give him some confidence after coming back from his injury."

Nick Salter was similarly strong after switching to the midfield after an "average" first half up forward.

"Salts had an average first half in attack but then really picked up playing in the midfield after half-time," said Cochrane.

"He found the footy around contests - a lot more possessions than normal - and ended up playing a pretty good game."

Campbell Heath played further up the ground from his usual half-back role and struggled to have an influence on the match.

"Cambo spent limited time down back and only ended up with 15 touches, so not one of his best games for the Eagles."
