MIKE SHEEHAN has named Port Adelaide's All-Australian stars Travis Boak and Chad Wingard in his 2014 evaluation of the game's 50 best footballers.

Published in News Limited mastheads across the country, Sheehan's top 50 is an annual compilation of the game's best and brightest according to one of its best writers.

The Port Adelaide captain Boak was ranked 26th on the list ahead of his St Kilda opposite number Nick Riewoldt, but behind Geelong livewire Steven Motlop and key GWS forward Jeremy Cameron.

It comes on the back of arguably Boak's best year of AFL football, where he was second in Port Adelaide's John Cahill Medal count, winner of the club's Fos Williams Medal and named on the bench of the 2013 All-Australian side.

Leading from the front in all-bar-one game last year (which he missed with injury) Boak took the Port Adelaide captaincy in his stride to help the Power over the line in a number of close games.

He was joined in Sheehan's top 50 by talented forward Chad Wingard, who was ranked 29th.

Wingard came in ahead of Fremantle captain and fellow forward Matthew Pavlich but trailed another West Australian attacker in the Eagles' Josh Kennedy.

Coming off his breakout second season with the Power, Wingard's ranking inside the top 30 follows his naming in the 2014 All-Australian team and crowning as Port Adelaide's best and fairest.

Stand-out efforts against the Adelaide Crows in the final Showdown at Football Park - a five-goal return including the match winner - and several other top shelf performances during the season, saw Wingard's star rise in 2013.

He entered Sheehan's end-of-year top 50 at the conclusion of last season.

Oliver Wines was also named among Sheehan's top 10 emerging stars, behind Gold Coast's Jaeger O'Meara and Adelaide's Brad Crouch - a carbon copy of the 2014 NAB AFL Rising Star podium.

South Australian football writer Andrew Capel also named Wingard the game's 10th best forward in The Advertiser.
