MATTHEW LOBBE has been withdrawn from Port Adelaide’s Round 8 team to play Fremantle at the Adelaide Oval this afternoon.

The ruckman experienced calf soreness during the week and while he completed training on Friday, the Power’s coaching panel has opted to rest him from duties against the Dockers.

The club has maintained a ‘no risk’ injury policy in 2014 and director of coaching Shaun Hart told portadelaidefc.com.au it was important to manage Lobbe back to full fitness.

“Matthew has some minor calf soreness at the moment, we just managing him,” Hart said.

“He trained yesterday but he didn’t get through to a point where we felt it wouldn’t be a risk to play him.

“He’s had probably the biggest load of the group this year and we didn’t feel he was ready to play this game."

Lobbe will be replaced in the Power’s selected side by upgraded rookie Brent Renouf, who will play his first game for 2014 and 16th since joining the Power in 2012.

Kane Cornes, Dom Cassisi and Kane Mitchell will start on the bench while Aaron Young will be the Power’s substitute.
