Aaron Young and Sam Colquhoun have signed contract extensions that will see them stay at Port Adelaide until at least the end of 2016.

21-year-old Aaron Young has played 26 games, including nine this year, after debuting in 2012.

Senior coach Ken Hinkley said Young is developing well as a player and continues to improve every week.

“He’s still got lots of upside in him and even on the weekend he gave us a bit of a kick after he came on,” Hinkley said.

“He demonstrates to us consistently that he’s going to be a really strong player for us for a long period of time so we’re rapt to have him.”

19-year-old Sam Colquhoun has played 10 games for Port Adelaide, all in his debut 2013 season and like Young played in both of the Power's finals matches last year.

Colquhoun injured a knee while playing for the club's SANFL League side, the Magpies, earlier this season and will miss the rest of 2014 after undergoing a traditional reconstruction.

“Sam at the time of his injury was just about right to get back into the side and he’s certainly an important part of our group going forward,” Hinkley said.

“People have missed a bit of the fact that we’ve had a pretty important part of our side missing this year because we thought his improvement this year was going to be significant.

“We know he’s got a really strong future, the knee’s a setback but we know it’s not going to interrupt a great career for the footy club."

Hinkley said he expected with Colquhoun’s rehabilitation tracking well, the young defender will be well-placed to undertake the entire pre-season in the build up to 2015.
