Peter Jackson Player of the Week

Aaron Young
Just a really good midfield game from Youngy. He could have been disappointed with missing out on the team for the Showdown but he came back into our side with a very positive attitude and played extremely well over four quarters. Tough inside at stoppage but also won some uncontested ball on the outside and his disposal was first class.

Player reviews

Karl Amon
Really pleased Karl put four quarters together and was very good overhead in regard to his marking. He also put his body over the ball and won plenty of contested possession in the tough conditions.

Mitch Harvey

Played a little more forward this week, but he still had stints on the ball as a ruck and remains consistent with his effort. Took one great pack mark so should get confidence from that.

Steven Summerton
Another strong performance from the skipper out on the wing, and through the midfield. We love the way he outworks his opponent and also makes really good decisions when in possession.

Angus Bruggemann
Went back into the ruck this week and was very competitive against a classy and quality opponent in Kurtze. Bruggers got back to being aggressive with his body and also tested his opponent when we won the ball.

Tom Logan
Had the role on Hansen who is a very productive forward for Sturt. Curbed his influence for three quarters and then we set Tommy free to give us some attack from defence. Great game.

Tom Clurey
Gave up just three scoring shots to Duldig over four quarters - so a good defensive effort - and looked to join in on our offence, test his opponent and used the ball really well coming out of defence.

John Butcher
Started slowly again but conditions did not really suit him from an aerial perspective. Gave some really good contests at ground level, but needs to get back to leading and presenting up at the kicker. One score is not enough from our most senior forward at SANFL level.

Anthony Biemans

Biemer had a rest during the week to freshen himself up, he has played some tough hard footy for us since joining the Magpies. He played with more intensity and energy and was able to play at a high level across the four quarters.

Cam O’Shea
Quite a solid effort considering he played on Coad who we all admire and is a very good forward for Sturt. Gave up three goals but he made Coad work hard for them. Cam competed very well in the body contests and used his run rebounding from defence to good effect.

Nathan Krakouer
I was much happier with Krak's game this week, owing to the way he really attacked the contest and put some intensity back into his performance. Played more as a forward and became a tough matchup for Sturt as the game wore on. This is the expected level Nathan needs to play at to hold his spot in the team.

Jake Neade
Jake was a little quiet with regard to possession, but he still chased, harassed and tackled the opposition consistently. Stood up after half time and sealed the game with two late goals from creative forward play.

Henry Slattery
It was great to have Slatts back and the conditions really suited him. He was fantastic around the stoppages where he blocked, tackled and put his body over the ball. Finished the game with one goal - which is great - but his 36 defensive actions were outstanding for us.

Darcy Byrne-Jones
Darcy been really consistent for a while now and is playing some great footy. Has developed his defensive play and now plays really tight and looks to use his run and rebound at the right times. Will get some midfield time in the next few weeks.

Ben Newton
Newts can only keep playing well and his chance will come with regard to AFL selection. He was terrific again around the stoppages as well as hitting up our forwards in general play. Just needs to be patient and continue to find ways to get better and take his game to new levels.

Brendon Ah Chee

Just a little in and out of the game this week for Arch, but at times he did show us his ability to use his frame and size around stoppages to extract the ball for us. Like Newts, he just needs to keep finding ways to improve and get better.

Danny Butcher

Butch 'junior' really loves these conditions and got involved to win the hard, tough balls for us. That was the reason we kept him the team because in the past few weeks we have lacked this intensity and aggression from our players. Solid performance.

Lewis Stevenson
Played with more intensity and aggression this week, as well as he rebounding the ball efficiently from defence for us. Had a much taller match-up going to their second ruck (Evans) and showed he has the ability and attributes to play on bigger opponents. Good effort and now needs to be consistent going forward.

Mason Shaw
Like Butch, it was not a day for tall forwards to have our 15-mark target, but he did manage eight which was really pleasing considering he was playing against the quality of Hinge and Beard. Mason finished the day with three goals - so a good effort - and he continues to improve each week.
Sam Russell
A quiet game from Sam, but he is taking some time to adjust to the level. Has not played a lot of footy and he will benefit from just getting out there each week and he did a great job on Hansen when we freed up Tom Logan. Sam just needs to find the balance of defending and attacking, because we certainly want a little of both.

Robbie Young
Impressive performance this week from Robbie, he played the conditions well and put his body over the ball. Robbie was also able to get off his opponent at times into dangerous spots inside 50m and mark the ball. Four goals was a great reward for consistent form.
