STEVEN SUMMERTON is confident his side can get back to its winning ways when it hosts the Adelaide Crows in a fortnight, despite a two-point loss to a more determined North Adelaide on Saturday.

The Magpies captain played his 150th SANFL game against the Roosters, but was unable to walk away with the premiership points after his side conceded an 18-point lead at the final change to be pipped by a North side desperate to stay in the finals race in the dying minutes.

Rather than lament the loss too heavily, Summerton was already demanding redemption from his teammates in the rooms after the game.

And he's urged the club's faithful to turn out in force for the first SANFL 'Showdown' at Alberton Oval on July 26.

"We will regroup and stick together in a massive couple of weeks on the track in preparation for the big match against Adelaide," Summerton told portadelaidefc.com.au.

"We'll give Adelaide everything we've got and get back on the winner's list.

"We won the first 'Showdown' in Round 5 and we want to make it two-from-two.

"Playing games the way we did today wasn't good enough, we need to make sure we get back to our best against the Crows.

"It would be great to have all our supporters out there, especially with the Power having the bye that weekend.

"It's always good when your fans cheer you on, it gets you up and about and helps you get over the line."

Reflecting on his career-to-date, the 26-year-old said the honour of captaining Port Adelaide in the SANFL was a surreal experience that he'd never imagined would come his way.

It's been a year of plaudits for Summerton, who is undoubtedly a front-runner for a second best and fairest medal, as well as playing a senior role in the victorious SANFL state team earlier in the year.

"It was obviously a massive honour to play the 150th for such a great club, but obviously it didn't pan out the way we wanted it to," Summerton said.

"Getting the captaincy and becoming the leader of the club made me put a lot of pressure on myself to perform well so I worked hard to get a good pre-season under my belt.

"I've had some great leaders and mentors in the past like James Meiklejohn and Mark Clayton - they taught me a hell of a lot.

"I'm still learning as I'm going, but those guys have really helped me through."

Port Adelaide will play the Adelaide Crows on Saturday 26 July 26 at Alberton Oval at 2:10pm.
