PORT ADELAIDE’s remarkable 2014 season continues to roll on after a second half frenzy overcame a tough Fremantle outfit to book an appointment with Hawthorn at the MCG next Saturday.

After being mired in a 24-point deficit at half time having been comprehensively outplayed in the first two quarters, the Power ignited at the start of the third to nudge ahead of Freo by two points at the final change.

With a smattering of teal watching at the ground, and a throng of faithful at Alberton Oval and around the world glued to radios and TV sets, Port Adelaide then proceeded to roll the Dockers with a brutal show of strength in the fourth term - buoyed by its incredible leg speed and daring, take-on-the-world style to seal the match with a six-goal-to-three closing effort.

But it wasn't a sure-thing, especially when ex-Power midfielder Danyle Pearce curled a late goal for the Dockers to bridge the gap to five points 23 minutes into the final term.

And yet Ken Hinkley's men, as they have done so many times before, reclaimed control of the match to slot the last three goals of the match.

It was a remarkable turnaround for the visitors after they had struggled through the opening half unable to get the ball inside attacking 50.

In a game where 'Cardiac Arrest - Crowd' could have been an interesting statistic, with so many knife-edge passages and brutal hits on the body, the hearts of Port Adelaide's supporters would have sunk as Fremantle dominated all key areas in the first half.

The Power, by contrast, spent most of the first two quarters withstanding the barrage of pressure from Fremantle.

The Dockers controlled the ball and forced the Power into repeated turnovers to chalk up 18 scoring shots to just eight for the half.

Fremantle should have led by more than 31 points halfway through the second term, with three missed shots on goal to Walters and one to Nick Suban squandering the invaluable opportunity to put Port to the sword.

Instead a late form reversal in the Power’s favour, including a quarter-closing goal to Chad Wingard, meant the Power was able to come out in the third term fully charged.

Hamish Hartlett, Ollie Wines and Robbie Gray lifted considerably in the third quarter to hit impressive contested ball numbers and close the Power’s deficit in key statistic benchmarks.

Chad Wingard booted four goals for the game in the most consistent attacking performance up forward, while Robbie Gray's came in another of his second half blitzkriegs.

And the tackle pressure exhibited in the third – no better characterised than in the final two minutes where both sides duked it out for ground-level superiority – was simply incredible.

The win means Port Adelaide has exceeded its 2013 performance under Hinkley - which saw the club lose this corresponding match to Geelong.

It would also appear to be a year for lower-ranked sweethearts, with wins to the Power and North Melbourne last night signifying the first time in the history of the current finals system that both the third and fourth-ranked teams have been bundled out of the major round in straight sets.

But on a night for celebrations, Port Adelaide must now consider its next challenge - reigning premiers Hawthorn at the MCG - a venue the Power has played at just four times in the past two years.

And it doesn't end there for Port's faithful, with the club set to play an SANFL Preliminary Final at the Adelaide Oval at 2:40pm on Sunday afternoon.

The Power will play the Hawks in the first preliminary final at the MCG on Saturday 20 September at 4:45pm (AEST).
