Port Adelaide has a new player courtesy of FOX8’s hit new reality TV show ‘The Recruit’, with winning candidate Johann Wagner selecting Alberton as his home of choice.

Wagner, 23, is currently listed with Central District and has played two League games for the Bulldogs since moving to Adelaide’s north from Port Lincoln.

The 190-centimetre forward kicked eight goals for SA Country against Western Australia in 2013 and has impressed the judges, which includes triple AFL premiership player Michael Voss and the Power’s head of high performance Darren Burgess, throughout the course of the show.

Wagner pipped Victorian on-baller Chris Moreland and Queensland’s ruck-forward Bradie Foster to win the show in the live draft event held on Wednesday night.

‘The Recruit’ winner was judged by the recruiting heads of each of the AFL’s clubs and all clubs were able to bid for the eventual winner to be listed as a ‘Category B’ rookie.

Port Adelaide’s national recruiting manager Geoff Parker says Wagner offers plenty of attributes desired in a Port Adelaide player.

“He’s very athletic, and should be able to fit into our program at Port Adelaide; the way we try to play the game,” Parker told portadelaidefc.com.au.

“He’s got speed, agility, good mark and knows how to kick a goal.

“We’ll get to work on him when he arrives at the club and hopefully he’s prepared to work hard and get down to work straight away.”
