(OK, enough bad puns...) 

Jared Polec has penned a new contract extension and is set to stay put at Port Adelaide for another three seasons beyond this year's.

In doing so, he joins fellow midfielders Travis Boak and Robbie Gray in committing to the Power until at least the end of 2018.

The 22-year-old played 24 games for the Power in 2014 and was leading the club’s best and fairest count following a best-on-ground performance against the GWS Giants in Round 7. 

Before that the product of Seaton Ramblers and Woodville-West Torrens had battled his way through injury to 16 games with the Brisbane Lions before seeking a trade home to Adelaide.

He landed with the Power – the club he grew up supporting in Adelaide’s western suburbs – and now is on track to chalk up his 50^th AFL appearance in the coming weeks.

While he initially signed a three-year contract to play through until the end of 2016, the extra two-year deal is a sign Polec is seen as an important part of Port Adelaide’s long term build.

“I’m loving my time at Port Adelaide,” Polec told portadelaidefc.com.au upon signing his new contract.

“I really enjoy playing with this group and I’m looking forward to staying at the club, hopefully for the rest of my career.

“I’m learning all the time under Kenny, Vossy and Carry as well as the other coaches, and know I can continue to improve with the team.”

Polec’s love for the environment at Alberton is evident in his creative and attacking football and his application on the track.

Port Adelaide coach Ken Hinkley hopes it inspires continued improvement in his game.

“He’s clearly enjoying his time at Alberton and we look forward to seeing him take his game to another level in coming seasons,” Hinkley says.

“Jared has really applied himself since arriving at Port Adelaide and we’ve seen him buy-in to our club’s team first philosophy.”
