ALIPATE Carlile is free to play Hawthorn on Saturday night after the Match Review Panel cleared him of any wrongdoing in an incident with North Melbourne's Sam Wright.

Carlile attacked the ball strongly during the first quarter and collected Wright in the process.

The MRP found Carlile was contesting the ball and had no realistic alternative option to contest the play.

Contact betweenPort Adelaide's Alipate Carlileand North Melbourne's Sam Wright from the first quarter of Saturday's match was assessed. The ball was loose with Carlile and Wright coming from opposite directions. Carlile makes contact with the ball and kicks it forward as the two players meet. It was the view of the panel that Carlile was contesting the ball and had no realistic alternative option to contest the play. No further action was taken.
