GAVIN Wanganeen and Warren Tredrea have been named in AFL journalist Mike Sheahan's team of the decades. 

Sheahan's tribute to 'The Finest of Their Generation' will be displayed as a mural at Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night. 

Wanganeen was named in the back pocket of the 1990s team, while Tredrea was named on the interchange bench for the 200s, no doubt rotating with Jonathon Brown at centre half-forward.

Port Adelaide's current midfield manager Michael Voss was named as captain of the 2000s team, having skippered Brisbane to three consecutive premierships early in the decade.

While many great players missed the cut of the 2000s, Sheahan made particular note of Tredrea being a worthy inclusion as a key forward.

"I think that's the one that's going to get the conjecture because of people like (Matthew) Richardson, (Sam) Mitchell and (Adam) Goodes and those guys that aren't in it," Sheahan said.

"I, like everyone else, loved the Richo contribution to the game, but in the finish I don't think he's quite Riewoldt and I was massive on Warren Tredrea in the period 2000-05."
