OUR fight for a top-up player looked set to be over, but in a bizarre twist of events, Chad Cornes appears to be on the cusp of joining the Power’s AFL list for 2016*.

Cornes appeared in the 2016 official team photo on Monday morning, looking as fit as the day he played his final game for the club in 2011.

portadelaidefc.com.au insiders believe the club is attempting to make a last-ditch bid to sign Cornes up as a top-up player for the suspended Paddy Ryder and Angus Monfries – and if Monday’s appearance in the team photo is anything to go by, it looks a real chance to happen.

It would seem a stretch that Cornes would be able to manage his full-time role as the Magpies senior coach and an AFL player, but there are examples of it being done in years gone by.

*Of course, Cornes was only standing in as a body-double for Tom Clurey, who was absent on Monday – away from the club due to a foot injury.

Cornes got a rousing reception from Port Adelaide players and staff when he donned black, white and teal No. 17 guernsey as he took his place in the team photo.

And considering Chad can pull off a guernsey better than many, we’re pretty sure Tom will be happy with the replacement body he was given!
