THE AFL's captains say Port Adelaide will make this season's top eight.

But they don't expect any changes to this year's grand finalists, with Hawthorn and West Coast receiving top billing for the first weekend of October.

All of the league's captains were polled at their annual Captain's Day prior to the Official AFL Season Launch on Thursday night.

12 captains picked the Power to make the finals this year, having narrowly missed the eight in 2015.

Fremantle, Geelong, Hawthorn and West Coast all received the maximum 17 votes to make the eight.

Patrick Dangerfield was a narrow favourite to win the Brownlow Medal and West Coast's Josh Kennedy was picked to win the Coleman Medal.

One captain voted for Charlie Dixon to lead the AFL's goal kickers.

Sydney draftee Callum Mills was picked to win this year's Rising Star award.
