THE SIX POINTS

1. The experienced members of Port Adelaide’s defence will need to stand tall this week against a Crows side that had 10 different players combine for 18 goal against the Bloods.

2. Dougal Howard pleased the coaches with his Round 1 performance. Not only did he show he can shoulder the ruck work with his 18 hit-outs, Howard was able to go forward and finished with three goals.

3. In his new colours for the first time, Jimmy Toumpas was a workhorse finishing with 25 disposals, six marks and four inside 50’s.

4. The injury to Matt White could pave the way for Toumpas, Karl Amon or Aaron Young to step into his place in the AFL side on Saturday. New recruits Will Snelling and Riley Bonner are expected to make their SANFL debuts for Port after overcoming their own injuries.

5. Like Port Adelaide, the Crows have few injuries and an almost full list to pick from. The Crows may also unveil their first-round draft pick Tom Doedee after he struggled with knee problems over pre-season.

6. Adelaide’s first round win sees them sit in the top half of the SANFL ladder after Round 1 for the first time since entering the league in 2014.

FINAL WORD

With a slow start to the season hanging over their heads, the Magpies need to put the loss to Norwood behind them. There will be plenty of fired up players out on Mannum Oval with bragging rights on the line.
