SHAUN McKERNAN was in excellent form for Essendon's VFL team on the weekend but an ankle injury may wreak havoc on his chances for a recall.

Essendonfc.com.au reports the 25-year-old former Crow had scans to the ankle injured in a marking contest after he booted six goals in the Victorian state league.

“We had that scanned today – we’re still waiting on the result – however given his progression so far we’d be optimistic there would be a glimmer of hope for this week,” Bombers high performance manager Justin Crow said.

“If not, we’d be hoping to get him going pretty quickly after that.”

Former Norwood player Orazio Fantasia was taken from the field in Essendon's win over Melbourne at the weekend, but has been cleared to play the Power on Friday night.

The minor shin-knock was not enough to keep him from playing out the game against the Dees.

Off-season recruit James Polkinghorne has also been made available for selection in the Bombers line-up after overcoming a calf injury.
