Ovarian Cancer Australia is Port Adelaide’s official charity partner for the Sunday's Power-Lions clash at the Adelaide Oval.

World Ovarian Cancer Day falls on Sunday May 8, alongside Mothers Day, providing the perfect opportunity to raise awareness for a disease that affects the women in our lives.

Every year around 1400 women are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Australia and more than 1000 women will die from the disease.

Due to the symptoms being confused with other illnesses, approximately 75 per cent of women are diagnosed at an advanced stage, where the cancer has spread and is difficult to treat successfully.

Raising awareness about ovarian cancer is important in saving lives, as women have an 80 per cent chance of survival after five years if ovarian cancer is diagnosed at an early stage.

Hombsch spoke at a press conference earlier this week about the cause of ovarian cancer.

“Let’s hope we can get everyone down and raise as much money as possible for the cause on Sunday,” Hombsch said.

Volunteers will be collecting donations at each main entrance on Sunday afternoon, with the money contributing to high-impact research, free information sessions, information through the online forum and support for recently diagnosed women.
