PORT ADELAIDE key forward Charlie Dixon is in doubt for the Power's home clash with Greater Western Sydney after injuring his left ankle during his team's 28-point win over North Melbourne at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night.

Port coach Ken Hinkley was hopeful that Dixon would be passed fit to take on the Giants in another must-win clash at Adelaide Oval.

"He rolled it in. It'll be a bit 50-50," Hinkley told reporters post-match.

"If it's a bad ankle, it probably means you miss a week but if it's OK he probably plays next week. I don't think it's a significant one.

"We know Charlie's history with ankles but this one was different to any of the others he's done. I just spoke to him about that. He's pretty bullish about the fact he'll do everything he can to be right for next week."

Port Adelaide remains in the hunt for a finals berth, having drawn to within two games of the eighth-placed Kangaroos, but Hinkley insists his team won't look any further than the Giants.

"I'm not going to be disrespectful in any way about that, but it doesn't change anything for us," he said.

"We've just got to work ourselves into a position where we can play consistently the same way.

"The ladder, the finals, all those things that are interesting for everyone, and I understand that – they're interesting to us at the right time – but right now we just can't afford to go anywhere (mentally) but next week."

It was the first time Port Adelaide had beaten a top-eight side – a milestone Hinkley was pleased to tick off.

"Until you do it, you can't say anything about it; you just do it. That's what we've done, and next week get an opportunity to go again (against) GWS, so we look forward to trying to make that two," he said.

Port started with a six-goal-to-nil first term and Hinkley was excited by the venom and purpose his team displayed in setting up a match-winning lead.

He was also proud of the efforts of young defenders Tom Clurey, Logan Austin and Darcy Byrne-Jones to play on vastly more experienced opponents.

Port Adelaide plays GWS Giants at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday 24 July at 4.10pm (ACST)
