WITH six rounds left in the home and away season we’ve got a good idea of who our best performers have been this year and who is in the running to win the club’s Best and Fairest.

portadelaidefc.com.au’s Adrienne Davies takes a look at the five top contenders for the John Cahill Medal.

Robbie Gray
Gray missed three games with injury and had a quiet period in the middle of the year, but the two-time reigning champion has been excellent again in 2016. Always one to catch the eye, Gray has polled AFL Coaches Association votes in nine of his 13 games, and has continued to dominate the midfield. Hard to split his two best games for the year, with 26 disposals and 4 goals in Round 1 against St Kilda, and 35 possessions and 2 goals last week against the Roos.
Stats: 26.7 disposals per game, 6.8 clearances per game, 14.4 contested per game, 15 goals

Ollie Wines
After an injury-ravaged 2015, Wines has come out fitter and stronger this year (if that was even possible). The ferocious midfielder averages 24 disposals a game and is getting hands on the ball all over the ground, but of note is that he is winning more contested possessions than uncontested. Had a day out against Richmond in Round 15 with 10 clearances, 10 inside 50s and nine tackles.
Stats: 24.6 dispsoals per game, 5.4 clearances per game, 12.5 contested per game, 6 tackles per game

Jackson Trengove
Trengove has had a huge year shouldering the ruck work, and his increased work rate cannot go unnoticed. He has battled manfully in the ruck and has been ferocious in his attack on the ball and player at ground level, giving the Power a versatile midfield option. Trengove had a standout game in Round 7 against the Brisbane Lions with 25 disposals, 13 clearances and 5 inside 50s.
Stats: 15 disposals per game, 10 hitouts per game, 4 clearances per game, 8.6 tackles per game

Jasper Pittard
In a year where we’ve had a number of defenders in and out the side, Pittard has stepped up to lead a young backline. Probably the Power’s most consistent player, Pittard is averaging 23 disposals a game, 4.8 rebound 50s and 3 inside 50s off the half back line. Another player that had a day out against Brisbane in Round 7, where he picked up 30 possessions and kicked his only goal for the year. A great start to the year should see him leading the count at the half way mark.
Stats: 23 disposals per game, 4.8 rebound 50s per game, 3 inside 50s per game

Chad Wingard
Wingard started the season slowly by his own lofty standards, but has worked his way into typical Wingard-like form – kicking more than two goals in each of his past 10 games. Notching up his 100th game earlier this year, he has kicked 31 goals to date and continues to be a barometer for the team. His best performance was against Melbourne in Alice Springs, where despite kicking 2.4 he picked up 26 disposals and caused headaches all day for the Dees. Another player that could hit a purple patch at the back end of the season and race to the top of the leaderboard.
Stats: 16 disposals per game, 31 goals, 32 tackles, 7 contested per game
