portadelaidefc.com.au takes a look at who’s in the mix to play in Showdown XLI at Adelaide Oval this Saturday night.

Port Adelaide

Port Adelaide’s disappointing 40-point loss at the hands of Melbourne on Saturday night could see a shakeup to the Round 21 side, in addition to one forced change to replace injured Chad Wingard.

There’s also a chance big man Charlie Dixon will sit this week due to an ankle niggle – he’ll need to get through training this week to prove his fitness.

Ken Hinkley stuck to his word in calling up some young blood to the senior side in Jesse Palmer in Round 21, and this week it could be first-year draftee Riley Bonner’s opportunity.

Bonner has produced outstanding performances with the Magpies throughout the year and is on the verge of an AFL debut.

Jimmy Toumpas will also be under consideration after booting three majors in Magpies’ big win on Sunday, while Brendon Ah Chee and Kane Mitchell continue to push their case for Showdown XLI selection to bolster the Power’s midfield.

A few tests on the Crows’ injury list will determine possible changes to their Showdown XLI side this week.

Dual Showdown Medallist and ruckman Sam Jacobs is chasing a much-anticipated return against the Power – he’s been on the mend since Round 19 with an ankle issue, and is likely to play, according to Adelaide’s manager of high performance Brett Burton.

“’Sauce’ has been training well throughout his rehabilitation process,” Burton told the Crows’ website.

“We look forward to him training on Wednesday and, all going well, being available to play.”

Paul Seedsman came out of Adelaide’s Round 21 side with a corked buttock, and will also be tested this week with the possibility of hitting the field.

Cam Ellis-Yolmen was omitted from last week’s team, but travelled to WA as the emergency to face Fremantle, indicating he’s around the mark for an AFL recall.
