IN no big surprise, St Kilda came away from its internal trial game last week happy with the result.

While portadelaidefc.com.au wasn’t there, we think it’s a safe bet to say the Saints coaching panel would have been thrilled with the way things went.

That sentiment was certainly backed up on the Saints’ website, with St Kilda assistant Rohan Welsh happy his players got through the contest without issue or injury.

“I suppose the most pleasing thing is we got through without an injury and some of the boys played really well and some of the guys who have had really strong pre-seasons played some good footy,” Welsh told saints.com.au.

“McKenzie played well, I thought Rice played well down back, Gresh got a bit of the ball, it was good to see Paddy take a few marks, Sebby Ross played well.

“The intra-club is a hard one, it’s a bit like dancing with your sister; it’s uncomfortable and you don’t want to get anyone hurt. So given we got through unscathed and with a good hit out under a belt it was a good result.”

The Power had their intra-club match on Friday in front of around 4,600 at Alberton Oval, with several players impressing in new positions.

Jackson Trengove and Nathan Krakouer played in new forward roles, having spent their careers primarily in defensive posts, while Hamish Hartlett was impressive out of half-back.

Matthew Lobbe was also solid in ruck.

The Power travels to Melbourne to take on the Saints on Thursday night at Etihad Stadium.

Teams will be announced on portadelaidefc.com.au and the Official Power Mobile App at 11.30am (ACDT) on Tuesday 21 February.
