VERSATILITY was key to Dan Houston’s AFL callup at the weekend, and the 19-year-old is embracing the change.

Drafted as a rookie forward in 2016 and debuting on the national stage in the Power’s defence on Saturday, Houston’s transition from goalkicker to backman in the space of a year has been remarkable.

Impressing throughout the Power’s preseason campaign in the backline with piercing kicking accuracy, he shone in his debut against the Swans, collecting six marks, three rebound 50s and 12 disposals at 83% disposal efficiency.

Speaking to PAFM on Tuesday afternoon, he admits reluctance about the move at first - but it’s been a blessing and an opportunity for the youngster.
