PADDY RYDER will take the place of Matt White when Port Adelaide's final team for Friday night's Anzac Round opener against Carlton is released.

Senior coach Ken Hinkley made the revelation at his pre-game press conference on Thursday.

Ryder missed last week's loss to GWS with a suspension.

It was White's first game since going down in Round 1, 2016 with a pectoral injury, but the hard-runner will play for the Magpies in their first home game of the year at Alberton on Saturday afternoon.

"White's going back [to the SANFL] ... Whitey probably got in with a bit of luck because Paddy did something silly [to get suspended]," Hinkley said.

"Paddy was always coming back in and he [White] knew that."

Meanwhile, Carlton has confirmed ruckman Matthew Kreuzer and veteran Dale Thomas won't make the trip to Adelaide Oval.

It allows Cameron Polson to play his first game in the navy blue on Friday.

Port Adelaide plays Carlton on Friday 21 April at 7.20pm at the Adelaide Oval
