PORT Adelaide star Chad Wingard was electric in the midfield, but he'll spend more time in attack with captain Travis Boak set to return for the Power's game with West Coast on Saturday.

"I've got a feeling I'll play a bit of both, 50/50, 60/40, whatever it might be," Wingard told AFL.com.au on Tuesday.

"(Boak) trained the whole session, played a bit of forward and a bit of midfield.

"We're hoping he gets up and we've got a good feeling he will."

Boak missed last week's win over the Brisbane Lions with a hamstring injury.

In his absence, Wingard was given a more prominent role on the ball and made the most of his opportunity, finishing with 31 possessions, seven clearances and seven inside 50s in the 83-point victory.

"I've trained midfield the whole pre-season," Wingard said.

"The running aspect wasn't really an issue, it was more just the feel of the game.

"The running patterns are a little bit different, but it's more just the set-ups and the feel of how you go."

Wingard – a two-time All Australian as a livewire half-forward - appears to be swapping roles with fellow Power star Robbie Gray, who has played predominantly in the forward line this season.

Gray has been a match-up nightmare for opposition sides and is leading the Power's goalkicking this year with 18 goals.

"He's been really dangerous down there," Wingard said.

"If he stays down there and I get a bit more time in the midfield, that's what's working.

"He's got some great knowledge, he's getting a bit older and has to use his smarts and that's what gets him a lot of his goals."

The Power have made an impressive start to the season, winning four of their first six games to be fifth on the ladder.

The Eagles are also building momentum after moving up to sixth on the back of last weekend's victory over cross-town rival Fremantle.

"We've got a big test this weekend with the Eagles and their experience in the midfield," Wingard said.

"Hopefully having Boaky back will spark the boys, but we don't need extra motivation.

"It's a big game, back on our home deck and hopefully we come out with the right mindset."

The Power trained for just over an hour at Adelaide Oval.

Gray, ruckman Paddy Ryder and defenders Jasper Pittard and Tom Jonas trained away from the main group.
