PORT ADELAIDE capped its SANFL Indigenous Round tilt with a spectacular 39-point win over Central District on Saturday.

The Magpies were a force to be reckoned with and had much to prove after last weekend’s loss to Woodville-West Torrens.

The win came in spite of a slow start in the first half that had the Magpies on the back foot and chasing the Bulldogs’ early lead.

Port’s hunger for the ball was evident, despite the Bulldogs’ early advantage to finish the first quarter two points in front.

The second quarter proved to be equally tough - it seemed the Bulldogs were able to answer every Magpie goal with one of their own.

The game turned after half time. While the Bulldogs scored the first goal of the third quarter, they struggled to keep their feet and possession as the rain poured down.

In contrast, the Magpies seized their opportunity to break away with 10 scoring shots in a row.

The Bulldogs regained some of their lost energy in the final term with the first goal of the quarter and were more competitive through the midfield, but the Magpies (still on a high from their third quarter domination) were carful not to drop their intensity and charged home.

AFL rookie Cameron Hewett found himself in the midfield on Saturday, and was brilliant in creating opportunities up forward to finish the game with 25 disposals and four clearances.

Brett Eddy had a stellar game booting home four goals, followed closely by Angus Monfries who kicked three while also using his pace to push the ball forward to set up many more.

Steven Summerton returned to the League side after a week in the Reserves and dominated the play with 30 disposals.

Port Adelaide travels to Noarlunga next week to take on South Adelaide on Sunday 4 June at 2.10pm.
