PORT ADELAIDE’S Power Footy Program continues to grow, with another Chinese school signing up to the program this week.

The club signed a Memorandum Of Understanding with Qixiu Experimental Middle School in Shanghai yesterday, committing to deliver the football program to its students on a regular basis.

The agreement marks the 15th school to sign up to the program, which combines footy skills clinics with learning about Australian culture.

Port Adelaide General Manager of China Engagement Andrew Hunter said the growth of the program illustrates the appetite for learning about Australian football and culture in China.

“We think there are a number of other schools that want to get involved, so this program will keep expanding,” he said.

“We really want to build the number of schools so there are 50 to 100 doing it in the future.”

After signing the MOU, students participated in a Power Footy Program session run by Port Adelaide delegates, including Port Adelaide Chinese recruit Chen Shaoliang.

“The best thing about today was that the kids were smiling, they were engaged, they were having fun, they were active and enjoying football – which is fantastic,” Mr Hunter said.

“These young people will get to know Port Adelaide Football Club, they’ll get to know our sport, and they’ll get to know South Australia – so when they’re making decisions about where to study and where to do business, or where to take a holiday in the future, they’ll be coming to Adelaide.”
