KANE CORNES has lauded Port Adelaide for their unrivalled access to its members and supporters, on Melbourne radio station SEN this morning.

Port will host their annual intra-club match on Saturday, February 10, at Alberton Oval, with more than 6000 fans expected through the gates.

Cornes says it is the perfect opportunity to open the gates to the fans and give them a taste of competitive footy for the first time this year.

“In addition to this, the club is hosting a Member Convention for 750 members,” Cornes said on SEN’s Whateley.

“Coach Ken Hinkley, football boss Chris Davies, assistant coaches Nathan Basset and Brendan Lade, CEO Keith Thomas, and high-profile president David Koch will address and answer questions from the crowd.

“How’s that for access?!”

The 300-game Power great says Australian Rules Football has become more and more Americanised over the years, and believes members and supporters are the ones who suffer the most.

“Port Adelaide may be the only club in the competition holding an intra in front of their fans,” he said.

“Clubs either don’t do them or if they do, they shut out the fans with the excuse they are closing the session to keep their game-plan out of the eyes of rival clubs.

“Our football vocabulary includes words such as offense, defence, quarterback, clutch, free agency.

“I’ve even heard some AFL contributors suggest our players should ditch the traditional game day attire of club polo and team tracksuits and replace it with expensive, tailormade suits, gold jewellery and designer headphones worn by the eccentric, American superstars.

“Please spare me.”

Port Adelaide’s Family Day begins at 4pm, with the intra-club match commencing at 5pm. At the completion of the match, players will be available for autographs and photographs with members and supporters.
