Cathay Pacific today announced an extension of its premier partnership with Port Adelaide with the airline remaining the club’s international airline partner for 2018.

Cathay Pacific joined Port Adelaide’s China Power Club in 2016 and became a Premier Partner in 2017 when it flew the club’s playing group, coaches and staff to and from Shanghai as part of the inaugural AFL game in China.

Cathay Pacific has a long history of aviation between Australia and China. The airline was formed in Shanghai in 1946 by American Roy Farrell and Australian Sydney de Kantzow, and its first commercial flight saw it freight Australian clothing from Sydney to Shanghai.

Today the Cathay Pacific Group operates over 195 aircraft flying to more than 200 destinations around the globe.

Port Adelaide Chief Executive Officer Keith Thomas said the club was delighted to extend its partnership with such an iconic, international brand.

“Cathay Pacific are one of the world’s most acclaimed airlines, providing premium product and services on its global network, and Port Adelaide is proud to have them on board again with us in 2018,” said Mr Thomas.

“Last year Cathay Pacific flew our entire club across to Shanghai for our history-making game in China and their professionalism, service and expertise made our travelling experience seamless and very enjoyable.

“Thanks to Cathay Pacific’s service our players flew in comfort which played a very important role in their recovery after the trip.

“In 2018 Cathay Pacific will provide our entire playing and coaching group with premium economy travel, as well as access to their lounge in Hong Kong for our stop over

“Since 2016 Cathay Pacific have also been flying our senior executives to and from China as part of our landmark China strategy, so this partnership runs far deeper than just one game per year.

“The support of such a premium brand in international aviation is a great testament to the continued progress we have made with our China Engagement Strategy, but also the positive associations around the Port Adelaide brand as a whole.

“I encourage all Port Adelaide fans travelling to Shanghai for our game to support the airline that supports your club.”

Richard Jones, Cathay Pacific Sales and Marketing Manager Australia said “Port Adelaide’s return to Shanghai this year is exciting for Australian football and we’re thrilled to be a Premier Partner and the club’s official international airline for a second year.

“The partnership allows for us to support and grow links between Australia and China, so we’re really looking forward to help stage the game in Shanghai.

“Cathay Pacific is also offering fans two special event packages – including flights, tickets and the option of accommodation. Flight and game ticket packages are available from $1,152pp on cathaypacific.com.au.”

Port Adelaide plays Gold Coast in Shanghai on Adelaide Arena at Jiangwan Stadium on Saturday 19 May.

Tickets for the game are available at shanghai2018.com.au
