PORT ADELAIDE midfielder Steven Motlop has won the Round 8 Goal of the Year nomination for his match-winning effort on the run against Adelaide a week ago.

Motlop received a handpass from Sam Gray just outside 50 and danced inside one Crows defender before straightening and finding space between four opponents to kick the goal that secured a famous Showdown victory with just 21 seconds left on the clock.

The 27-year-old received 46% of the vote for Round 8, beating out Sydney’s Ben Ronke who received 41.2% for his dodging and weaving snap goal against Hawthorn.

Adelaide’s Taylor Walker received just 12.8% of the vote as the final nominee.

Motlop is now eligible to win the $10,000 prize for the 2018 Coates Hire Goal of the Year, which will be announced at the 2018 Brownlow Medal Count.
