PORT ADELAIDE midfielder Sam Powell-Pepper has won the Round 9 Goal of the Year nomination for his remarkable effort on the goal line in the final two minutes of the game against the Gold Coast in Shanghai a week ago.

Powell-Pepper was deep in the forward pocket and collected a bouncing ball just before it went out, ran towards the goal line and after being tackled and falling to the ground, managed to kick the ball over his head while lying on his back for a miraculous goal.

The 20-year-old received 47.7% of the vote for round 9, beating Collingwood’s Jordan De Goey who received 35.3% for his clean pick-up, dodge and weave snap goal against St Kilda.

Richmond’s Jack Riewoldt received 17% of the vote as the final nominee.

Powell-Pepper is the second Power player in two weeks to win the nomination, after Steven Motlop got the nod for his match-winning effort against Adelaide in Round 8.

Both players are now eligible to win the $10,000 prize for the 2018 Coates Hire Goal of the Year, which will be announced at the 2018 Brownlow Medal Count.
